Oh! I almost forgot that today was the launch day for the PS3... isn't it?

Well, I'm here in my nice, warm home and not out on some street corner line, freezing my ass off.

And I couldn't be happier.

The PS3 is a thing of beauty. It really is. And I would like to get my hands on one. But currently, there are no games that I've seen that are available that give me that "MUSTHAVENOWORIWILLDIE!" impulse. Really, I think there's only been one game (not console) in my entire life that's been like that, and I preordered that the day after I read the review.

And besides, $600 on a "first-generation" (and potentially bug-ridden) NextGen device that I'd only be using about an hour or so per day is a little bit much for me. If it were something that I use 18 hours a day constantly without fail (such as Kozue and Raye, my computers), then $600 would be nothing to me (heck, I'm even considering a $1,200+ expenditure for a new laptop and I see that as a good deal and would have no trouble throwing that money down in a heartbeat, if I had it). But for something I only moderately use, it's hard to justify that much money.

And it's bound to have it's glitches and other Launch Day issues... I'll wait for "second gen" models, or late "first gen" models with the bugs fixed... and maybe even a few decent games. And hey... the price might even be a little more justifiable.

And then I hear these reports that most of the people in line to get these systems, just want to head back home and put them up for sale on eBay.

What the hell?! 600-dollar units going for over three grand? Just because someone has to have it? While it's a given that buying one at that price for a LaunchDay unit is abso-friggin-lutely insane, selling them like that is almost a crime... why don't you people get out of line and let those who actually want to KEEP theirs get ahead of you? You can sell them when you get that second shipment. Sure... it may not fetch as big a price, but who cares? It would help alleviate the already amazingly tight and short supply. At least somewhat.

Just another reason to wait a year or two... My PS2 has a lot of life still left in it, and I can find lots of things to do to bide the time. And in that time, that once in a lifetime game might show up. Or it might not.

Either way, I'm making out with a HELL of a better deal. And I'm infinitely happier for that.

P.S. - Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against you "campers" who sit out in front of the stores for days at a time. God bless you, as you take care of all the hard stuff for us casual gamers who prefer to wait. Without you, the system wouldn't "take off," and we probably wouldn't ever get ours later on. It's you who give the consoles their kickstart with your purchases... and then leave it to us to keep it going. Don't ever change. Keep spending your days in line so that we can get ours later.
